Miniature Herefords

Miniature Herefords are a smaller version of the full size Herefords.  If you look at a miniature Hereford from a distance with no point of reference to gauge its height by, you will not be sure whether it is a miniature or a full size Hereford.  Miniature Herefords range in height from thirty-six (36) to forty-eight (48) inches.

The total number of miniature Herefords worldwide is very small compared to other breeds. They are primarily sold for use as pets, for small-scale milk production, breeding, showing, organic beef production or for the farm or ranch grown market.  It is estimated that sixty to seventy percent are currently sold as pets.  These cattle are very tame, are easy to handle and are easy to care for.

A lot of people do not have land for full size cattle.  Most people just do not have three, four or five hundred acres anymore.  These cattle are easy-keepers that require approximately one-third the feed that their full size cousins require making them well suited for the small acreage farm or ranch.  When raised for beef, miniature cattle provide enough meat to last a family of four six months.  That’s just about the freezer shelf life of beef.
